The short answer
Start with one Malayalam call task, then test speech recognition, spoken replies and business actions together. ElevenLabs is a candidate to evaluate; language support depends on the selected models and agent configuration. Approve the setup only after native speakers test it over real phone calls.
The connected workflow
Reference design · Proposed steps to validate in a pilot, not a deployed customer case study.
- Choose a task
Begin with a callback request or appointment confirmation, with a clear handoff to staff.
- Prepare the language
Review the opening, business vocabulary, names, dates and how callers mix Malayalam with English.
- Connect the record
Retrieve only the context needed for this call from the business system.
- Handle the conversation
Confirm the requested action; route unclear speech or unsupported questions to a person.
- Save the outcome
Write a validated result to the original record and test that it reached the right staff member.
What each tool does
- Voice platform
- ElevenLabs is an example candidate. Confirm Malayalam support across the exact listening, reasoning and speaking configuration.
- Phone connection
- A supported Twilio or SIP connection, subject to number availability, destination rules and the chosen platform.
- Business connection
- n8n or a small backend checks records, validates actions and writes results to the existing CRM or booking system.
- Approved knowledge
- Business hours, location, service descriptions and escalation instructions, reviewed by a Malayalam speaker.
Choose by the whole call
The ElevenLabs model language support lists Malayalam for some speech models. That does not establish support or acceptable performance for every voice-agent configuration. Check the selected recognition, language and speech components together, then follow the ElevenLabs agent language configuration. Ask each provider to run the same call scenarios rather than comparing polished recordings.
Prepare natural language
Collect the phrases your customers actually use. A caller may say a Malayalam sentence with an English service name, appointment time or location. Review greetings, polite interruptions, date formats and number reading with native speakers. Let people request a staff member without having to repeat themselves. Do not advertise a dialect or accent as supported until that version has been tested.
Configure the agent
Define what the agent can do, what it must ask and when it must stop. Add reviewed business information to its ElevenLabs knowledge base. This is configuration and retrieval of approved information; uploading documents is not the same as training a new speech model. Keep changing details such as appointment availability in a live system lookup.
Connect useful actions
For a service business, a caller could ask for a callback in Malayalam. The agent confirms the contact details and preferred time. A server-side action validates the request, finds the existing CRM record and creates a task for the right person. The agent acknowledges success only when the task is saved. If the CRM is unavailable, it explains the limitation and follows the agreed fallback.
Test beyond the greeting
Build a test set with different speakers, ordinary background noise, interruptions, short replies and Malayalam-English switching. Include similar-sounding names, corrected phone numbers and a caller changing their mind. Score whether the business outcome was recorded correctly, not just whether the voice sounded natural. Repeat failed cases after changes and keep the release version with the test results.
Define the handoff
Choose whether uncertainty leads to a live transfer or a callback task, and test staff availability. Disclose that the caller is speaking to an AI assistant using a reviewed Malayalam opening. Keep the contact preference and opt-out state in the business system. A failed transfer must leave an actionable task rather than a conversation marked complete.
Set a practical budget
Compare telephony, voice usage, model charges, workflow hosting and staff review at the expected call length. Include language testing and script review in setup costs. For international businesses serving Malayalam-speaking customers, test both the intended countries and the actual phone route. A low-cost browser demonstration does not establish the cost or quality of a production phone call.
Common questions
Can you build a Malayalam voice agent with ElevenLabs?
ElevenLabs is a candidate, but the exact agent and speech configuration must support Malayalam and pass real-call testing. We help compare options and establish suitability before recommending a production setup.
Can it switch between Malayalam and English?
Treat mixed-language conversation as a test requirement. Configure a supported language route and test switching, names and business terms with native speakers; do not assume every model or channel behaves the same.
